Matthew Perry, the actor from Friends, passed away after being discovered unresponsive in the bathtub.

US media reported that Matthew Perry, the star of “Friends,” passed away at his Los Angeles home at the age of 54. Law enforcement sources stated that Perry was found unconscious in his hot tub and first responders were unable to revive him.

The fire department confirmed they had responded to a water emergency, which could include a pool, spa, bathtub, or fountain. However, they could not confirm if Perry had drowned.

Perry gained fame for playing the witty Chandler Bing on the highly successful TV show “Friends,” which aired for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.

The show “Friends” depicted the experiences of six individuals in New York City as they navigated through adulthood, relationships, and professional pursuits. It was a popular fixture in NBC’s television programming during the 1990s and early 2000s, and amassed a large international fanbase.

During his peak of success, Perry struggled for a long time with addiction to painkillers and alcohol. He went to rehabilitation centers several times. In 2018, his drug abuse led to health issues, such as a burst colon. This condition necessitated multiple surgeries and the use of a colostomy bag for several months.

In his memoir published last year, Perry recounted his numerous detox experiences and the exorbitant amount of money he spent in multiple attempts to achieve sobriety.

Perry wrote in the prologue of his book that he dedicated it to all the sufferers and mentioned that he should be dead. He also revealed that he has been mostly sober since 2001, except for a few mishaps. TMZ reported that no drugs were found at the scene where Perry was found by his assistant, who called 911.

Anonymous sources cited by both the LA Times and TMZ reported no indication of wrongdoing.

The Hollywood community reacted on social media to Perry’s death, with Mira Sorvino and Josh Charles expressing their condolences and Warner Bros. TV mourning the loss of a true gift.

Perry never won any of the five Emmys he was nominated for, even though two of the nominations were for his guest appearances on “The West Wing.” Additionally, Perry never got married.
